TGP Dispatch: 4/21/26
Secrets of Strixhaven is fully out there, we had sealed SOS positively flying off the shelves this past weekend. If you were too cool for (magic) school and slept on picking up packs and precons and whatever else this past weekend, you might want to reconsider and come in ASAP if you want to secure some Strixhaven.
A huge thanks to all the players and fine folk who came out during prerelease weekend, it was a wonderful time — perhaps the busiest we’ve seen the shop in a hot minute — and a great reflection of how fun, passionate, and inclusive this community can be. It’s always nice to return to some MTG Classic™ and we’re glad + grateful to be a part of it.
Moving on from old business to new business, the big-time banner item this week (outside of all the stuff actually happening this week) is COMMANDERJAM 2026! It’s back! It’s formally announced! You can read the post right here, it’s on socials, and you’ll certainly hear more about it in the near future!

Of course, we can’t leave a Dispatch without talking about this week’s events. So, here’s what we’ve got happening at TGP presently:
MTG Premodern Cash Tournament
Saturday, April 25, 12:00 p.m.
Premodern MTG is a community-driven format consisting of the sets from Fourth Edition to Scourge. Classic, old frame cards printed between 1995 and 2003, which were standard legal at some point during this period. See the list of all legal sets here, check out the entire Premodern card pool here. Folks have been playing a lot of Premodern in the Triangle recently, and it’s been getting traction at events and tournaments we’re adding a cash tourney into the rotation at The Gathering Place!
Entry is $30 per player, all that entry goes back into the prize pool, and registration is still up on the TGP online store!

Gundam GD04 Phantom Aria Prerelease
Sunday, April 26, 1:00 p.m.
The fourth set of the Gundam TCG comes out in April, and The Gathering Place is having our prerelease event on Sunday, April 26! Players are looking at $30 entry for a six-pack sealed prerelease tournament complete with promos and prize support.
This has been a pretty sizable post for the week, and way more visually-oriented than usual. If that’s working for you, or not, let us know. But there is more more important line item to consider, and that’s the imminent LDOC for UNC students. Last year, Alpha Pie teamed up with Sangam for a patio party and benefit night, and we’re running that back this year too. What’s more, Alpha Pie has some specialty slices in the works for the event.
As always, thanks for reading. For hanging, for playing, for being part of what we do here week after week, month after month, and year after year. It means the world, and we’re proud to be your third space. See you around, friends.
